ROBERT A. SHIPLEY was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 3, 1953. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1975 with a B.A. in History. He attended Northern Illinois University College of Law where he received his Juris Doctor degree in 1978. He received his license to practice in the State of Illinois in 1979 and was admitted to practice in the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois that same year. He has been a member of the Federal Trial Bar for the Northern District of Illinois since 1982 when the Trial Bar was formed.
While attending Northern Illinois University College of Law, he was one of the authors of the By-Laws and Constitution of the College of Law. An active member of the American Bar Association, Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association and Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel, he is a former member of the Illinois State Bar Association Civil Practice and Procedure Section Counsel as well as the former Chairman of the Illinois State Bar Association Interdisciplinary Cooperation Committee. He is on the panel of arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association and Cook County Mandatory Arbitration Program, a former faculty member of the American Institute for Paralegal Studies, Inc. and has been invited as a guest speaker to address the Casualty Adjusters Association. He is also a graduate of the DePaul University Center for Dispute Resolution and is a Certified Mediator.
Mr. Shipley has been in private practice since 1979. His practice is concentrated in civil litigation involving complex commercial, insurance and tort litigation and general business counseling. He has tried in excess of 95 cases to verdict and successfully argued cases in the Illinois Appellate Court.
